The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained neck and recalled right-hander Erik Johnson from Class-A Lake Elsinore.

Johnson will make his Padres debut Saturday against Colorado after being acquired last weekend in a deal that sent righty James Shields to the Chicago White Sox. The 26-year-old Johnson made two starts for the White Sox this season.

Cashner left the game Friday when experiencing tightness in his upper back and neck after throwing only six pitches. Manager Andy Green said Cashner was still sore Saturday morning, leading to the decision to put him on the DL.
