Pac-12 women: UCLA tops Washington State; USC falls to Washington

Monique Billings scored half of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and No. 14 UCLA pulled away from Washington State for a 73-61 victory on Friday night at Pauley Pavilion.

Kari Korver and Lajahna Drummer had 12 points apiece and Jordin Canada contributed 11 points and nine assists for the Bruins (18-6, 10-3 Pac-12). Nirra Fields had seven points, seven rebounds and five steals whileBillings had nine rebounds and three blocks.

Borislava Hristova had 16 points for the Cougars (12-12, 3-10), who have lost seven straight.

Billings’ three-point play and a Drummer bucket at the buzzer gave UCLA a 56-51 lead after three quarters.

Taylor Edmondson quickly cut it to two 30 seconds into the fourth quarter. But UCLA took control when Fields’ three-pointer sparked a 13-0 run in a span of less than two minutes.

The Cougars missed their last five shots and made only one of 10 from the field while committing seven turnovers in the fourth quarter.

Washington 61, USC 53: Kelsey Plum scored 22 points to help the Huskies turn back the Trojans at the Galen Center.

Katie Collier had 16 points in the second half and Talia Walton added 13 points for the Huskies (17-7, 8-5 Pac 12), who had an 18-point lead with 6:25 to play. Chantel Osahor had no points but grabbed 16 rebounds.

Plum’s jumper followed by a Collier layup with 2:39 left put Washington up 55-43 with 2:39 left but then the Huskies had three turnovers and a miss while the Trojans were scoring eight. Temi Fagbenle’s three-pointer with 43 seconds left made it 55-51. After a Plum steal, USC had to foul three times before Walton was sent to the line, where she made two free throws with 21 seconds left.

Fagbenle had two free throws for USC at 16 seconds but the Huskies made four more from the line.

Courtney Jaco scored 17 points and Kristen Simon had a career-high 21 rebounds for the Trojans (17-8, 5-8).
