Top California sire Unusual Heat is retired from stud duty
Unusual Heat, a 26-year-old thoroughbred stallion who became the leading sire in California progeny, has been retired from stud duty.
“He’s been remarkable and even in his final season at stud in 2016 managed to get 25 of 30 mares in foal,” said Harris Auerbach, managing partner for M. Auerbach, LLC. “It’s been an amazing run.”
Unusual Heat had a huge impact on breeding and racing in California. His runners have amassed $52.4 million in earnings, including 12 graded stakes winners. He was the leading sire in California six times.
Unusual Heart is pensioned at Harris Farms in Coalinga.
