Denny Hamlin stays hot in Michigan

Denny Hamlin continued his hot streak, dominating Sunday’s NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn to pick up his second straight victory and fifth of the season.

Hamlin led 123 laps and controlled the second half of the race, easily pulling away from Kasey Kahne on a restart with under 20 laps remaining.

Kahne held on for second, followed by pole sitter Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. Four-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson was sixth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was seventh.

Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal for the second time in four years, holding off McLaren teammate Jenson Button at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to take the season points lead from Mark Webber.

Lee Westwood gets Memphis title

Lee Westwood won the St. Jude Classic for his second career PGA Tour victory and first since 1998, beating Swede Robert Karlsson on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff at Memphis, Tenn.

The Englishman became the first European to win the event after Robert Garrigus blew a three-stroke lead on the final hole of regulation with a triple bogey. He bogeyed the first playoff hole.

Westwood finished with a 270 total.

The final round of the weather-plagued LPGA State Farm Classic at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill., was pushed back until Monday.

Cristie Kerr and Anna Nordqvist held the tournament lead at 20 under.

It was debated whether to award the title to Kerr, the leader after 54 holes, and cancel the fourth round, but LPGA rules official Jim Haley said officials will try to finish the 72-hole tournament Monday.

Hewitt knocks off Federer

Lleyton Hewitt upset Roger Federer for the first time in 16 matches to win the Gerry Weber Open title at Halle, Germany, a warmup tournament for Wimbledon.

The 29-year-old Australian won, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, in his first final of the season. Hewitt last beat Federer in 2003.

Top-seeded Federer, who was chasing his sixth title in Halle, had won his previous 29 matches at Halle.

Sam Querrey won an all-American final at the Queen’s Club grass-court tournament in London, edging Mardy Fish, 7-6 (3), 7-5.
