NFL report: Aaron Rogers hampered by shoulder injury
The physical toll of facing more pressure in the pocket has caught up with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
He was listed as limited in practice on Wednesday with a right shoulder injury.
Coach Mike McCarthy said before practice that his quarterback was “banged up.” Rodgers agreed with that assessment, though he said he was not concerned about his availability for Sunday’s game at Minnesota.
“Probably banged up. But we all are at this time. It’s Week 11 coming up, everybody is dealing with different things,” Rodgers said. “You get a routine, learn how to take care of your body and push through things.”
Fourteen players were listed on the Packers injury report.
Hoyer sits out practice with concussion
Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer missed practice on Wednesday because of a concussion and is questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
Hoyer was injured in the third quarter of Houston’s game at Cincinnati on Monday night. T.J. Yates, who was signed on Oct. 28, helped lead the Texans to a 10-6 victory. Yates will start on Sunday if Hoyer is unable to play.
Fitzpatrick expects to start
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said he expects to start at Houston on Sunday despite not practicing and his left (non-throwing) thumb being in a bit more pain after having surgery.
Coach Todd Bowles on Wednesday would not declare Fitzpatrick the starter at Houston, saying he wants to see how the quarterback progresses.
Redd cited for substance abuse
Washington Redskins running back Silas Redd has been suspended four games without pay while on injured reserve for violating the NFL’s policy for substances of abuse.
The league announced the penalty Wednesday, but did not say exactly what Redd did.
Redd, who played at USC, is out for the season after injuring right knee ligaments in Washington’s preseason opener in August.
Doug Flutie loses both parents
Former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie said both of his parents died within an hour of each other on Wednesday.
Flutie said in a statement posted on his Facebook page that his father, Dick, died of a heart attack in a hospital in Florida, where the family moved years ago. He that less than an hour later, his mother, Joan, also suffered a heart attack and died.
Flutie wrote: “They say you can die of a broken heart and I believe it.”
Flutie did not elaborate on the circumstances of their deaths, but called them “incredible parents and grandparents” who had been married for 56 years and were always there for their children.
