Peyton Manning’s left foot was sore Friday so he didn’t practice after running the Denver Broncos’ scout team for two days.

Manning’s foot has bothered him for months and he’s been sidelined since mid-November with a torn plantar fascia that required a cast or boot for 10 days.

He returned to practice Wednesday but after two days of running the scout team, he reported to work saying he was sore.

Coach Gary Kubiak had already ruled out Manning for Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh, when Brock Osweiler will make his fifth consecutive start for Denver (10-3).

In addition to Manning, Kubiak said safeties T.J. Ward (ankle) and Omar Bolden (hamstring) and linebacker Lerentee McCray (hamstring) would miss Sunday’s game. Safety Darian Stewart (hamstring) was 50-50 after missing practice all week. He’s one of a half-dozen players listed as questionable.

St. Louis aldermen vote to chip in on stadium for Rams

St. Louis aldermen on Friday agreed to spend $150 million to help finance a new riverfront football stadium as part of the effort to keep the Rams from moving.

Aldermen voted 17-10 to approve the measure. “Won by a touchdown,” said Alderman Jack Coatar, a sponsor of the bill.

The vote does not guarantee that owner Stan Kroenke will keep the team in St. Louis, but was considered vital toward the effort to build the new $1-billion stadium that could entice NFL owners against allowing the Rams to move.

Raiders’ Austin Howard (knee) won’t play Sunday

The Oakland Raiders will be without starting right tackle Austin Howard for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers because of a left knee injury. Howard was hurt on Oakland’s opening possession of the third quarter during last week’s win over Denver.

And the Packers won’t have Pro Bowl cornerback Sam Shields for the game. Coach Mike McCarthy said Shields, who suffered a concussion in Green Bay’s last game, won’t accompany the team to Oakland.

Etc.

After four years in the NFL and four different teams, Kelcie McCray of the Seattle Seahawks is expected to start a game for the first time Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. McCray took over for an injured Kam Chancellor in last week’s 35-6 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. With Chancellor unable to practice all week due to a bruised tailbone, McCray would get the starting nod at strong safety if Chancellor can’t play against the Browns. ... Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain has been ruled out against the New York Jets on Saturday night because of a concussion, and Dallas cornerback Morris Claiborne is doubtful with a hamstring injury. ... The Minnesota Vikings have ruled injured linebacker Anthony Barr (groin, hand) and safety Harrison Smith (knee, hamstring) out for the second straight game. The Vikings also declared wide receiver Charles Johnson (ankle) and defensive end Scott Crichton (concussion/neck) out for their game Sunday against Chicago. ... New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was listed on the team’s injury report Friday with an illness that made him questionable Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Brady did not practice with the team, according to the injury report. Since he took over when Drew Bledsoe was injured in Week 2 of the 2001 season, Brady has played in every game of every season except for 2008, when he was injured in the first quarter of the opener and missed the rest of the season. Backup Jimmy Garoppolo has appeared in four games this season and has not thrown a pass this year. The injury report also said linebackers Eric Martin (concussion) and Jonathan Freeny (hand) would miss Sunday’s game. Receiver Julian Edelman (foot) is doubtful. ... The San Diego Chargers are optimistic about right guard D.J. Fluker after he completed another practice on Friday. He’s missed the last three games because of a concussion and is designated as probable.
