In an abrupt move that stunned his teammates, the Arizona Cardinals released wide receiver Michael Floyd on Wednesday, two days after the 2012 first-round draft pick was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failure to obey a police officer.

Coach Bruce Arians declined to comment on the move other than to say it was a “totally” unanimous decision by him, team President Michael Bidwill and General Manager Steve Keim.

“Seeing stuff like this happen, I think we’re all shocked,” safety Tyrann Mathieu said. “We’re all kind of in disbelief.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Floyd, who was to become a free agent at the end of this season, was taken into custody early Monday after being found unconscious behind the wheel of his running vehicle at an intersection in suburban Scottsdale. He was booked and released from the Scottsdale jail later that morning.

It was not his first brush with the law. He had three alcohol-related incidents involving police when he was at Notre Dame, including a DUI arrest.

Peterson at practice

Adrian Peterson was back on the practice field for the first time in nearly three months, and the Minnesota Vikings hope their star running back can give them the jolt they need to chase down a playoff berth.

Peterson’s rehab of a torn meniscus in his right knee is nearly complete, allowing him to rejoin his teammates at practice as he ramps up for a highly anticipated return.

Wearing a brace on his right knee, Peterson took handoffs from Sam Bradford, ran routes and went through agility drills during the portion of practice that was open to media.

Peterson was not available for comment on Wednesday, but did tell a local website earlier in the week that he is still targeting the Dec. 24 game in Green Bay for his first game since the injury against those same Packers in Week 2.

Winston suit settled

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston and the woman who accused him of rape while both attended Florida State University have settled the civil lawsuit she brought against him.

Court records show that Winston and his accuser, Erica Kinsman, have agreed to settlement terms and anticipate filing a joint motion for dismissal within 20 days. The case was scheduled to begin April 3 in U.S. District Court in Orlando.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they have been sexually assaulted, but Kinsman has spoken publicly about her case.

Kinsman sued Winston in April of 2015, accusing him of sexual battery, assault and false imprisonment stemming from a December 2012 incident.

Battling anxiety

A desire to be perfect has caused anxiety problems for Brandon Brooks.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ starting right guard spoke openly about an issue that forced him to miss two of the past three games. Brooks originally thought his condition was a stomach disorder.

“I have an anxiety condition, not nervousness or fear of the game,” Brooks said. “I have an obsession with the game. It’s an unhealthy obsession right now and I’m working with team doctors to get everything straightened out and getting the help that I need.”

Brooks is now on medication and is also seeing a counselor.
