This game is shaping up as a grudge match

It already sets up as a marquee matchup of Western Conference powers, but tonight’s game between the Ducks and the Nashville Predators may have also found its way to the bulletin board.

The teams’ last meeting, a 3-0 Nashville victory on Feb. 3, produced 108 penalty minutes, two fights and several skirmishes near the end of regulation. Sean O’Donnell and Travis Moen got game misconducts, as did the Predators’ Darcy Hordichuk.

Afterward, Hordichuk accused the Ducks of playing dirty and Nashville Coach Barry Trotz alluded to possible retribution, telling reporters, “We’ll have long memories.... We marked down some numbers.”

Moen, who hurt Nashville’s Shea Weber in a fight that night, says he’s prepared for any histrionics.

“There might be some stuff,” the Ducks’ left wing said. “I know they said some things in the papers. I think they’re going to come in and play a physical game with us. We’re just going to try to play with the same intensity that we had Friday night.”

The Ducks, who defeated San Jose, 3-1, on Friday, also will have Peter Forsberg on their minds as they face the Swedish star for the first time since Nashville traded for the former NHL most valuable player. Forsberg has one goal and six assists in seven games with the Predators.

In the win over San Jose, the Ducks hit Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo at every opportunity in containing the Sharks’ duo. Forsberg, despite battling foot problems all season, may present a different challenge because of his physical style.

“He can take it and dish it out too,” Moen said. “He’s a great player.”

Jean-Sebastien Giguere reached 30 victories for the third time Friday and the veteran goalie is four wins away from tying his career high set during his breakout 2002-03 season.

“You know that’s a pretty good season when you get to that number,” Giguere said. “Obviously guys in front of me are a huge part of that. You win as a team and you lose as a team.”
