The decision to pull the bobsled and skeleton world championships from Sochi could result in — what else? — a lawsuit by Russian officials.

The country’s minister of sport discussed potential legal action Wednesday, suggesting that Sochi had already spent considerable money to prepare for the event.

“If there were costs, how is the international federation going to compensate them?” Pavel Kolobkov told R-Sport.

International officials decided to move the February event after numerous sliders — including Americans — threatened to boycott in light of the Russian doping scandal.

“It seemed like the right thing to do given how strongly the athletes felt about going to Russia,” said Scott Blackmun, chief executive of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

A replacement site — possibly in the U.S. or Germany — will be announced in coming days.
