According to the IIHF, the net had been knocked off its moorings before Fyodor Tyutin’s shot went into the net and the play was properly reviewed. The IIHF also said the ruling made by referees Brad Meier and Markus Vinnerborg to disallow the goal was the correct decision.

Here’s the text of the IIHF statement.

Gold medalist Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic celebrates after winning a women's snowboard cross quarterfinal on Sunday at the Sochi Olympics.

Eva Samkova takes gold medal in Sochi women's snowboard cross

SOCHI, Russia -- Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic dominated women's snowboardcross on Sunday, posting three wire-to-wire victories on her way to Olympic gold.

The 20-year-old Samkova was easily the fastest in qualifying and never trailed in the elimination rounds, her board pulling her well clear of the madness behind her.

Dominique Maltais of Canada earned her second Olympic medal by grabbing silver. Chloe Trespeuch of France earned bronze.

Lindsey Jacobellis of the U.S. failed to make it to the medal round. She was leading in her semifinal race when she crashed near the end of the slushy course at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. Jacobellis recovered to win the consolation final.

It marked the third straight disappointing Olympic finish for the eight-time X Games winner. Jacobellis had gold in her hand in Turin in 2006 only to fall while attempting a fancy grab with a big lead in the final. She recovered for silver.

Four years ago in Vancouver, Jacobellis was in the semifinals when she...

U.S. defenseman Cam Fowler scores against Russia in a preliminary-round game at the Sochi Olympics on Saturday at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.

Ducks' Cam Fowler: Win over Russians 'unbelievable to play in'

Hello, everyone!

What a great start to the tournament so far. Going back a couple of days to our first game ... I had a few butterflies against Slovakia. We had a big second period with five goals, and I was able to settle in after that. We ended up winning, 7-1, a good start.

The NHLPA has put together a lounge for all players and family to gather after games. So after our game I was able to go there and share my experience and everything with my family. Everyone was excited about our win. Seeing my teammates with their family and friends really makes the experience great. The support for US has been fantastic so far.

On Saturday afternoon it was time for our much-anticipated game against the Russians. What an unbelievable atmosphere it was. The crowd was amazing and there were Russian flags everywhere with a good U.S. crowd sprinkled in.

The game was unbelievable to play in. Momentum swings back and forth. They scored first and we were behind. Then, fortunately I was in the right...

Bronze medalist Bode Miller, left, and silver medalist Andrew Weibrecht of the United States celebrate after the men's super-giant slalom race at the Sochi Olympics on Sunday at Rosa Khutor Alpine Center.

Americans Andrew Weibrecht, Bode Miller medal in super-G at Sochi

SOCHI, Russia -- Kjetil Jansrud won the fourth consecutive Olympic super-giant slalom gold medal for Norway, topping an early run by eventual bronze medalist Bode Miller U.S. and then watching a late charge fall just short by silver medalist Andrew Weibrecht of the U.S..

Jansrud finished the choppy course in 1 minute 18.14 seconds to help his country maintain its dominance in the Olympic men's event. Starting 29th, Weibrecht flew down the hill and wound up second, 0.30 seconds behind.

Miller, who became the oldest alpine skier to medal, finished in a tie for third with Jan Hudec of Canada.

This was Miller's sixth Olympic medal, moving him two behind the all-time alpine leader Kjetil Andre Aamodt.

Norway has long ruled this Olympic discipline, with Aamodt winning in 2002 and '06, and Aksel Lund Svindal in 2010. Svindal struggled on Sunday and finished seventh.

Weibrecht won the bronze in the super-G in 2010 at Vancouver, but has been besieged by injuries ever since. He's never been on...

Switzerland goalkeeper Jonas Hiller deflects a shot by the Czech Republic during a 1-0 victory on Saturday in a preliminary-round game at the Sochi Olymics.

Sochi Olympics: Ducks' Jonas Hiller records another shutout for Swiss

SOCHI, Russia -- Goaltender Jonas Hiller is making the most of the meager offensive support he has gotten from his Swiss teammates.

Hiller on Saturday recorded his second shutout of the Sochi Olympic tournament, stopping 26 shots in a 1-0 victory over the Czech Republic at the Bolshoy Ice Dome. Hiller, one of seven Ducks playing for their respective Olympic teams here, had stopped 21 shots in a 1-0 victory over Latvia in Switzerland’s first game. He was the backup to Reto Berra in Switzerland’s 1-0 loss to Sweden in its second game.

Switzerland must put defense first in order to succeed, but to go further it must improve on its early production of three goals in two games. Still, Hiller isn’t complaining.

“As long as you’re winning everybody is having fun,” he said. “I don’t think you purposely score just one goal. I think we have really good forwards we have talent up front.”

Although his margin of error was small — Simon...
