Keeping up with Kings and Ducks in the Sochi Olympic hockey tournament

SOCHI, Russia — Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller recorded his second straight shutout as Switzerland defeated the Czech Republic on Saturday to finish preliminary-round play with a 2-1 record. The preliminary round will conclude on Sunday.

Here’s a look at what the seven Ducks and six Kings who are representing their respective homelands did in their games Saturday:

Slovenia 3, Slovakia 1: Kings center Anze Kopitar scored Slovenia’s third goal to clinch its first-ever Olympic victory in its second tournament game. He had three shots and was +1 defensively in 26 minutes 50 seconds of ice time.

U.S. 3, Russia 2 (shootout): Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick made 29 saves in regulation and overtime and then held off five of eight shootout attempts by Russia. Kings winger Dustin Brown was in the penalty box when Russia tied the score, 2-2. He one shot in 9:42 on the ice. Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was +1 defensively in 15:33 of ice time for Russia. Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler scored the first U.S. goal and had two shots in 17:56.

Switzerland 1, Czech Republic 0: Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller stopped 26 shots for his second consecutive 1-0 victory here (he didn’t start Switzerland’s second game).

Sweden 5, Latvia 3: Ducks winger Jakob Silfverberg had an assist on a power-play goal by Jimmie Ericsson that gave Sweden a 4-2 lead. He has gradually been playing more, as he got 11:29 ice time and had one shot.
