Lolo Jones, who finished fourth and seventh as a hurdler in two Summer Games, has her sights set on a medal at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

OK, she understands she’s a long shot in the U.S. No. 3 bobsled, but so far it’s mainly lesser-name Americans making a splash at the Sochi Olympics. Alpine sensation Lindsey Vonn missed the Winter Games because of injury, while speedskater Shani Davis, downhill racer Bode Miller and snowboarder Shaun White have all missed opportunities to medal.

“You think about everybody who was supposed to medal who didn’t medal and then you think about just so many people who have kind of come up and got a first medal,” Jones told reporters Friday. “It’s been a really weird Olympics.

“This is the Olympics of the underdogs. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Jones will be the brakeman for pilot Jazmine Fenlator, a first-time Olympian who was seventh in the World Cup standings this season after earning a silver medal at one event and having three other top-four finishes.

The two will continue training through the weekend before their competition, which comprises four runs over two days, takes place next week.

“There’s no pressure,” Jones said. “I think every Olympian goes to the Olympics and thinks about a medal. If you’re not going and thinking about a medal, you shouldn’t go.”
