Manti Te’o will sit down with Katie Couric this week to discuss the hoax surrounding his now infamous fake girlfriend’s death.
According to ABC News, the Notre Dame linebacker and his family will open up about the situation on Couric’s daytime talk show, “Katie” Thursday, Jan. 24 on ABC. It will be the first time Te’o has spoken about the situation in front of a camera.
On Friday evening, ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap sat down with Te’o off camera and discussed the situation with the Heisman Trophy finalist telling him he had nothing to do with the hoax and how he tailored some of the details of the story about her to cover up the fact he was embarrassed to have been in an online relationship. Te’o also admitted he only just found out last week the story was untrue.
Te’o’s story has gripped the nation and his interview with Couric will surely draw huge ratings.
Last Thursday, disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong admitted to doping in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey on her network. The two-part interview was expected to draw big numbers however Te’o’s story might top it especially considering the bizarre nature of the story.
