Twenty-one Petoskey High School athletes received All-Big North Conference honors in football, boys’ soccer and volleyball for the 2011 fall season.
Eleven Northmen football players were named to the team, including five to the first-team; six Northmen were named to the soccer team, including two first-teamers; and four Northmen are on the volleyball squad, one on the first-team.
The teams were selected by league coaches.
In football, Petoskey seniors Shane Severn and Joe Robbins were each named to the first-team at two positions, Severn on both the offensive and defensive lines, and Robbins as a running back and as a defensive back.
Robbins was a unanimous selection as a running back. He was one of just three unanimous picks. Traverse City West kicker Kevin Cronin and Cadillac punter Tyler Lightner were the others.
Petoskey’s Jordon Smith and tight end Zak Lewis, both seniors, were selected to the first-team offense, Smith on the line, Lewis at tight end.
Petoskey’s Hunter Stinger, a senior, was selected to the first-team defense as a linebacker.
Northmen running back Cody Fryczynski earned a second-team nod as a running back on offense. Lineman Kegan Schoenith, linebacker Pat Antonides, and defensive back Quinn Ameel were named to the second-team defense. All three are juniors.
Two other Northmen were also honored. Senior defensive back Keegan Reynolds received honorable mention, while senior linebacker/fullback Eian Delph received special mention.
Two Northmen, seniors Jake Mullin and John Bowers, were named to the first-team in boys’ soccer, while senior Brandon Coats and junior A.J. Hoffman were named to the second-team.
Juniors Adam Bayer and Evan Altman received honorable mention.
Northmen junior Megan Tompkins was named to the All-Big North first-team in volleyball, while senior Katie Kidd earned a spot on the second-team. Juniors Kelsey Ance and Alyssa VanWerden each received honorable mention.
