Former University of Michigan football player Jon Jansen will be the featured speaker at a luncheon hosted by the Little Traverse Spirit Group 12:15 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at Stafford's Perry Hotel in Petoskey.
Jansen played offensive tackle for the Wolverines from 1994-1999, starting 50 consecutive games at right tackle. He was a two-time team co-captain and helped lead the 1997 team which won both the Big Ten and the National Championships, capping the perfect season with a 21-16 win over Washington State in the 1998 Rose Bowl.
Jansen was also a co-captain of the 1998 U-M Big Ten championship team. He earned the Michigan Big Ten Medal of Honor, recognizing his athletic and academic achievements while graduating from Michigan.
After an 11-year NFL career, Jensen retired to the Petoskey area and is now a partner in CrossFit Petoskey, a physical training center.
Tickets are $30 with proceeds going to the Little Traverse Spirit Group scholarship fund. The group awards at least two $500 scholarships to Emmet County high school graduates who are enrolling at Michigan.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets may be reserved by contacting Fred Geuder at email@example.com.
