Prep roundup: Rayders remain unbeaten in Lake Michigan Conference

The Rayders improve to 12-4-1 overall, 9-0 league.
Anna Way scored the Rayders’ first goal off a Herboldsheimer assist, then Herboldsheimer finished a Megan Peters throw-in for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Herboldsheimer’s second goal came on a header off a Way corner kick.
Lauren Bartling and Peters shared the shutout in goal, while Charlevoix coach Carol Madison lauded the defensive efforts of Savannah Joseph, Cristin Cole and Carolena Elowsky.
“Carolena was named our player of the game and she made quite a few runs up the field,” Madison said. “She also had a couple of shots on goal.”
The Rayders travel to Maple City Glen Lake for a non-league match today, Tuesday, before going to Elk Rapids for a key league match Thursday, May 17.
Pellston 8-11, Forest Area 3-3
FIFE LAKE — Pellston pitchers issued just one walk over 12 innings Monday as the Hornets swept a Ski Valley Conference doubleheader.
Game-one winner Zak Kruskie scattered 10 hits and struck out nine.
Christopher Hass hit a solo home run and a two-run single to lead Pellston at the plate. It was his second homer of the season.
Also for the Hornets, who were outhit 10-7 but aided by four walks and four hit batsmen, Nick Kasubowski had a two-run single, and Jake Friedenstab, Andy Hamlin, Nick Nathan and Ron Schlosser each singled. Fridenstab picked up an RBI.
Dale Stark struck out six, walked one and allowed six hits for the win in game two.
Nathan led the Hornets at the plate with three hits and two RBI, while Hass, Bay Kerr and Schlosser each had an RBI single, and Kruskie singled.
The Hornets improved to 15-11 overall, 8-6 league.
Pellston will play at Charlevoix in a Prostate Cancer Foundation Charity doubleheader on Thursday, May 17. The opener is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and a special presentation featuring Pellston coach Randy Bricker and Charlevoix coach Allen Telgenhof is scheduled prior to the first pitch of game one.
Donations for the foundation will be accepted at the game.
