Fan cries foul over non-call against Lakers

Dear Sports Viewpoint:

Technically speaking, the old Spurs nemesis “Mr. 0.4” himself did foul Brent Barry at the end of Game 4. But the other Spurs nemesis, “Mr. Smiley” himself (Joey Crawford), made the no-call to which both Coach Gregg Popovich and Barry agreed as correct and valid.

The Lakers barely got out of San Antonio with the win and will likely will take the series at Staples in Game 5.

I’ve seen NBA officials make bad calls before in league final games, but never like I witnessed in Game 4 between the Lakers and the Spurs.

The officiating was not to be believed. Were the refs in San Antonio’s pocket?

The Lakers were being penalized for blinking with the wrong eyebrow while the Spurs could physically commit mayhem, or assault and battery on the Lakers players and no penalty was assessed.

At least 10 San Antonio points should be credited to the refs for making incredible calls against L.A. Even Phil Jackson, during an on-air interview, credited the refs for allowing the Spurs to get back into the game.

The only thing that mattered was their non-call against Derek Fisher with less than two seconds left when Fisher collided with Barry, thereby preventing a three-point shot or penalty shot that would have won it for the Spurs.

Thank you refs for your evenhandedness when the game was on the line.
