What we learned from the Rams’ 9-6 victory over the New York Jets:

Jeff Fisher won’t budge… for now

After a victory in which the Rams scored zero touchdowns, Jeff Fisher was repeatedly asked if he would consider making a change at quarterback.

Starter Case Keenum leads an offense that has produced two touchdowns in the last 12 quarters.

For the third time in a row – after losses against the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers and following Sunday’s victory – Fisher said the problem was not Keenum.

Fisher maintains that Jared Goff, the top pick in the NFL draft, will play when Goff is ready.

But it is increasingly clear that simply means when Fisher is ready to play him.

That really is Todd Gurley wearing jersey No. 30

Rams fans weren’t certain because through eight games the running back in that uniform did not resemble the player they had heard so much about.

But Gurley showed in the second half hints of why he was the NFL offensive rookie of the year last season.

Despite a thigh injury and a slow first half by Gurley, offensive coordinator Rob Boras did not abandon the running game.

Gurley responded with 54 yards in 11 second-half carries, and he could have had more if a long gain had not been nullified by a holding penalty.

The punt coverage team stepped up

Johnny Hekker deservedly gets most of the attention – he needed no bounces to record a 78-yard kick –but the unit features other players making an impact.

Receivers Bradley Marquez and Mike Thomas and linebackers Josh Forrest, Bryce Hager and Cory Littleton are among those who made plays against the Jets.

The punt coverage team was instrumental in flipping field position, forcing the Jets to start inside the 20 four times.

Short-yardage situations remain an issue for the offensive line

The Rams had first and goal at the one-yard line and could not get enough of a push to score a touchdown.

It harkened to the Rams’ loss at Detroit -- and other instances near and far from the goal-line -- when they were stuffed short of a touchdown or first down.

Benny Cunningham’s near lost fumble did not help matters, but some of the formations and play calls near the goal line Sunday indicated a lack of confidence in the line’s ability to clear the way to the end zone.

The Rams might be 2-7 without kicker Greg Zuerlein

For the second time this season, Zuerlein scored all of the Rams’ points in a victory.

Zuerlein converted from 20, 38 and 34 yards against the Jets. He also kicked three field goals in a 9-3 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

Zuerlein also showed Sunday that he has a short memory. His winning performance came a week after he missed two 55-yard attempts in a loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Kenny Britt felt right at home

Britt, who grew up in New Jersey and attended Rutgers, caught seven passes for 109 yards.

He was targeted six times and had five catches for 98 yards in the first half, including a one-handed reception that he turned into a 25-yard gain.

In the second half, Britt was targeted only four times and had two catches.

Other Rams receivers accounted for only 56 yards.
