Blackhawks fans and their jerseys
A jersey is more than just a shirt worn by a player--it's an expression of fandom. RedEye hit the United Center recently to talk to Blackhawks fans about the significance of their chosen jerseys. Want more? Discuss this article and others on RedEye Sports' Facebook page.

JERSEY: Bernie Nicholls, No. 92 (1994-96)
My mom's from L.A., so I went to a lot of Kings games as a kid. And in the '80s, Bernie Nicholls on the Kings scored a ton of points on Wayne Gretzky's line. So I always liked Bernie Nicholls. When he got to the Hawks, I was super fired-up about it. I always wanted a Bernie Nicholls jersey, and I had this old [blank] jersey from the era, so a few years ago I decided "Screw it, I'm going to go get it customized with NICHOLLS on the back."
I bought the jersey itself in like '95, and I had it customized four or five years ago. I thought it was a little bit out of the ordinary. It's not the usual Kane/Toews, or Savard/Roenick/Chelios kind of stuff.
Do you see other people in Bernie Nicholls jerseys?
I saw one guy once in the exact same jersey, maybe two or three years ago after the last game of the regular season. We just ran into each other. It was kind of weird.
Did you share a moment?
Yeah, the guy told me he had 20 or 30 different jerseys and that he has a ton of Hawks jerseys, so I was like, "Well, I can't compete with that." That was pretty cool.
