The buzz: The winner of this quarterfinal goes on to play the U.S. on Tuesday in Houston. A stingy defense and a hot goalkeeper in Dan Hernandez have made Venezuela the surprise team of this tournament. The team upset Jamaica and Uruguay by identical 1-0 scores, then took a 1-0 lead into the final 10 minutes against Mexico before settling for a tie. Venezuela will need a huge step up in class against top-ranked Argentina, which has looked unbeatable so far. Argentina won all three of its group games -- the only team to do so -- and leads the Centenario with 10 goals scored while giving up just one. Lionel Messi, who has spent only 74 minutes on the field in the last two weeks, is expected to make his first start of the tournament, but key midfielder Angel di Maria is likely out for the rest of the competition with a torn adductor.
