The Impact (9-4-4) is winless in three games and has given up eight goals in that span. Montreal’s recent defensive woes surfaced again when Chivas USA took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.

Jorge Villafana put a shot off the bar, and Avila put in the rebound from the edge of the penalty area.

Chivas USA played cautiously on defense and it worked in the first half.

Chivas USA defender Carlos Borja was given a yellow card but saved an almost certain goal when he pulled Marco Di Vaio down from behind just outside the area in the 39th minute.
