Dominic Dwyer broke Kansas City’s single-season scoring record with his 19th goal to help Sporting beat Chivas USA, 4-0, on Friday night.

The previous club record was set by Preki in Kansas City’s inaugural season of 1996. It was Dwyer’s third goal in his last four games to get within two scores of New York’s Bradley Wright-Phillips for the MLS lead.

Kansas City (13-10-6) snapped a four-game losing streak, while Chivas (6-16-6) was shut out for the eighth time in nine games and had its winless streak reach 10 matches.

Dwyer started the scoring in the 40th minute. Graham Zusi launched a pass near midfield and Dwyer outran the defense and beat goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum to the ball.

Benny Feilhaber made it 2-0 just before halftime. In the second half, Zusi curled in a shot in the 52nd minute and Claudio Bieler capitalized on a defensive mistake in the 87th.
