Update: This is the only regular-season game between the clubs. The Galaxy, now third in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference, is seeking its ninth consecutive game without a loss after defeating the New England Revolution, 5-1, on Wednesday. Sporting Kansas City, the MLS’ defending champion, is in first place in the Eastern Conference and has gone five matches without a loss. The team is coming off a 2-1 win over Columbus on Wednesday when midfielder Benny Feilhaber scored the game winner in stoppage time. It’s unclear whether the Galaxy’s Omar Gonzalez will return to action. The defender, while playing for the U.S. national team, hurt his right ankle in the team’s July 1 loss to Belgium in the World Cup.
