Update: The Galaxy’s next three matches are against teams it is battling for playoff seeding, beginning with Saturday’s clash with Real Salt Lake in which second place in the Western Conference will be at stake. Real Salt Lake currently holds that spot, but the Galaxy can move past it with a win. However the standings are so tight — just three points separate second from fourth — a Galaxy loss or tie could drop the defending league champions to fourth depending on what Seattle does against Portland on Sunday. The Galaxy hasn’t lost in seven matches, but it will be without standout defender A.J. DeLaGarza, who sprained his left knee Sunday and figures to miss the rest of the regular season. But midfielder David Beckham trained all week and is aiming to play 90 minutes for the first time in two months. RSL, meanwhile, outscored opponents, 7-2, in September. Alvaro Saborio had three of those goals in last week’s win over Chivas USA, making him the league’s second-leading scorer with 17 goals.
