Update: This is the third and final regular-season meeting between these rivals in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference. The Galaxy is in third place and the Timbers in seventh. Their first two games this year ended in ties. They played to a 1-1 draw on May 11 in Portland, when each club scored in stoppage time, then had a 2-2 tie on July 4 at StubHub Center, when the Galaxy’s tying goal was courtesy of an own goal by Portland defender Rauwshan McKenzie. The Galaxy enters this game coming off a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders last Monday. The Timbers have won their last two games, most recently a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Impact.
