David Beckham hints he may not be done as a player
Turns out David Beckham may not have played his last game in Major League Soccer after leaving the Galaxy two years ago.
The former English national team captain and two-time MLS champion is talking about a comeback.
Beckham, 39, who has put together an ownership group to place an MLS expansion team in Miami, says he may just decide to play for his new team.
“There’s never been a player-owner. But maybe,” Beckham says during a BBC documentary that will air June 9.
Beckham played his last competitive game for French side Paris Saint-Germain last year but says he’s had a tough time in retirement.
“Now I go to watch a basketball game, and when you are watching athletes play at the top of their game, it gives me that itch again and I want to be back in the game and I starting thinking to myself, ‘Could I play again? Could I go back? Could I come out of retirement and start playing again?’ ”
One problem: Beckham’s Miami team is having trouble finding a site for its new stadium and may not begin play until 2017, when he’ll be two months shy of his 42nd birthday.
