Offers for Chivas’ Guzan

Chivas USA President Shawn Hunter confirmed on Friday that the team has received offers from multiple clubs in Europe for Brad Guzan, last season’s Major League Soccer goalkeeper of the year. Some offers call for Guzan to leave Chivas USA this month, others call for him to leave in the summer.

Guzan, 24, is in the final year of a three-year contract he signed after getting drafted. Hunter said he has talked to Guzan’s agent about a contract extension, but that Chivas hasn’t made any offers yet.

The latest European club to be rumored to be interested in Guzan is Scottish side Celtic. Hunter would not confirm that Celtic was one of the teams that made an offer for the goalie. Instead, Hunter said, “We have multiple offers from multiple teams.”

Calls to Guzan’s agent were not returned. Chivas midfielder Sacha Kljestan, who is training with the U.S. national team, said Friday he heard about the Celtic offer a couple days ago and tried to reach Guzan on vacation.

Separately, Hunter said that Chivas has explored the possibility of trading for an MLS designated player slot, but that the team has yet to find a player for which they would use the slot.

“Our first choice is still to find a player from Mexico,” said Hunter.
