The chances of Hyun-Jin Ryu making his next start were categorized Saturday as “doubtful” by Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly.

“Can’t totally rule it out, but ...” Mattingly said.

If Ryu can’t pitch Wednesday, Carlos Frias will start in his place.

Ryu pitched only one inning in the Dodgers’ 9-0 defeat to the San Francisco Giants the previous night.

Ryu is scheduled to return to Los Angeles on Monday to undergo a MRI exam.

The left-hander underwent a preliminary examination Saturday by team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
