LAS VEGAS -- Former UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian is home after spending 10 days in a Las Vegas hospital following a heart attack.

Danny Tarkanian says his father was “very tired” but “smiling” after being released Saturday from Valley Hospital.

The elder Tarkanian was hospitalized April 9 after attending the Final Four in North Texas, complaining of weakness, lethargy and labored breathing. Doctors determined he had a heart attack.

Danny Tarkanian says while it was at least his father’s second heart attack, family members are relieved that tests showed it didn’t cause his heart condition to be “significantly worse.”

He says his father was cheered by an outpouring of support from former players and friends during his hospitalization, including a phone call from Kentucky Coach John Calipari several days ago.

A member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, Tarkanian, 83, led three schools to the NCAA tournament, including the 1990 UNLV team that won a national title.
