Cal State Fullerton edges Louisiana Tech, 1-0, in NCAA regional opener
Cal State Fullerton broke a scoreless tie with a run in the eighth inning and that was enough for the Titans to edge Louisiana Tech, 1-0, in the Starkville, Miss., Regional of the NCAA tournament.
The game was in the seventh inning on Friday night when heavy rain pushed the finish to Saturday.
Cal State Fullerton (36-21) manufactured a run in the eightth inning when Ruben Cardenas hit a bases-loaded groundout that scored Josh Vargas.
Louisiana Tech (40-19) managed just two hits. Cal State Fullerton’s John Gavin, Scott Serigstad and Dylan Prohoroff combined to throw 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Serigstad (2-1) earned the win while Prohoroff earned his third save.
Louisiana Tech’s Adam Atkins (6-1) took the loss, giving up one run in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
