Alex Smith seeks rare 7-0 start with Chiefs against the Texans
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who lost his job last season in San Francisco to Colin Kaepernick after an injury, has a chance to do something Sunday that has happened only once since the AFL-NFL merger.
Smith is attempting to win his seventh consecutive game in his first season with a team when the Chiefs host the Houston Texans at 1:25 p.m. PDT Sunday. He’s one of only six quarterbacks to open with six wins in a row since 1970.
The only quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger to win seven in a row with his new club? Dieter Brock of the Los Angeles Rams in 1985.
Brock is one of two Rams to perform the feat. Former Chargers great John Hadl won six straight games with L.A. in 1973.
The other three quarterbacks to win six in a row include two Denver Broncos, Kyle Orton in 2009 and Craig Morton in 1977.
The marquee name belongs to Brett Favre, who went 6-0 when he joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2009.
