Angels acquire minor league pitcher Barry Enright
The Angels acquired right-handed pitcher Barry Enright from the Arizona Diamondbacks organization Monday night and will send the minor leaguer with big-league experience to triple-A Salt Lake.
Arizona will obtain a player to be named or cash considerations, the Angels announced.
Enright was 6-7 with a 3.91 earned-run average for the Diamondbacks in 2010, when Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto was interim GM for Arizona.
Enright, a 26-year-old from Stockton, was 1-4 with a 7.41 ERA in seven starts with the Diamondbacks in 2011 but spent the majority of the season at triple-A Reno, where he was 9-5 with a 5.21 ERA in 21 starts.
A 2007 second-round draft pick from Pepperdine, Enright has been in Reno all season this year, going 8-6 with a 5.87 ERA in 21 starts.
The Angels have been scouting several major league pitchers in advance of the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, including Miami’s Josh Johnson and Minnesota’s Francisco Liriano on Monday night. The team has also scouted Tampa Bay’s James Shields and Jeremy Hellickson.
“If the ability to make a move to help the club exists, we’ll search that out,” Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto told The Times’ Mike DiGiovanna before the Enright acquisition. “Pitching will be available -- it is every July. How much of it will be available, I don’t know. But there will be a premium to access it.”
