Angels’ Peter Bourjos won’t rule out postseason surgery

Even as the Angels activated Peter Bourjos on Friday, the center fielder said he could not rule out postseason surgery on his right wrist.

Bourjos suffered a broken wrist when he was a hit by a pitch June 29. The Angels originally believed he would sit out two to three weeks, but the bone healed slowly and he sat out seven weeks.

Although he completed a minor league rehabilitation assignment, Bourjos said he still experiences soreness in the wrist after games, when he wakes up in the morning, and occasionally doing such everyday tasks as twisting open a door or water bottle. He said he hopes the soreness goes away over time but would not rule out postseason surgery if it does not.

“It depends on how it heals,” Bourjos said. “It’s an option if it doesn’t heal right. That’s the last thing I want to do. A month from now, it should feel pretty good.”

With Bourjos returning to center field, Mike Trout moved back to left field. In 86 games in center field this season, Trout is batting .358 with a 1.090 OPS. In 37 games in left, he is batting .278 with an .813 OPS.

In order to clear a roster spot for Bourjos, the Angels optioned infielder Tommy Field to triple-A Salt Lake.
