Southern California golfer Anthony Kim is back in the news, but not for anything he’s done on the course.

A few years ago Kim ranked among the top young players on the PGA Tour. Then came a string of injuries including tendinitis and a torn Achilles’ tendon.

Now comes a report that the 29-year-old La Quinta High alumnus -- who hasn’t played since 2012 -- might be looking to collect on a $10-million insurance policy that covers him for career-ending injury.

Golf.com reported that a friend who requested anonymity said: “He’s trying to weigh the risk of coming back. The way he’s phrased it to me is, ‘If I take one swing on Tour, the policy is voided.’”

The Golf.com report tells of Kim becoming more reclusive, yet living a comfortable life. He could conceivably earn far more by returning to golf, where he earned millions in prize money and endorsements in past years.

“To say that he won’t come back because of money, that doesn’t ring true to me because he’s the most competitive kid I know,” Tour player Colt Knost was quoted as saying. “I can’t imagine that’s what he’s thinking, unless something’s changed and he doesn’t want to play anymore.”
