England’s Danny Willett said it was a surreal feeling to see his name atop the leaderboard at the British Open when he entered the clubhouse after the second round.

But it’s a feeling he hopes to he gets a chance to get used to.

“Looking up there it’s still a little bit surreal but something I’m going to have to get used to -- otherwise no point being up there,” Willett said. “We’re going to try and rest up and then try and go out for another good weekend, and hopefully we can be up there in two days’ time.”

The 27 year old is playing in his third British Open, with his highest finish being a tie for 15th in 2013. That’s also his highest finish in nine overall major championship appearances. But at nine strokes under after two rounds at St. Andrews, Willett is currently in second place, a stroke behind Dustin Johnson.

Jordan Spieth, chasing his third straight major championship, has been on a rollercoaster ride the last several holes. He bogeyed the fifth, birdied the sixth and seventh, bogeyed the eighth and birdied the ninth to go to one under for the day and six under overall.

12:01 p.m.: Dustin Johnson has reclaimed sole possession of the top spot on the British Open leaderboard.

The U.S. golfer finished Thursday’s first round in the same position, but by the time he started playing late Friday Johnson had been overtaken by Danny Willett, who held a two-stroke lead at the time.

But Johnson has caught fire again, collecting birdies on the fourth, fifth and seventh holes to drop to 10 under overall, one stroke up on Willett.

Jordan Spieth, who is playing in the same group as Johnson, recovered from a three-putt bogey on the fifth hole with back-to-back birdies to drop to six under for the tournament. He is looking for his third straight major championship this year.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods’ struggles continue. He has bogeyed two of his last three holes to go to two over after six and six over for the tournament.

10:25 a.m.: Tiger Woods made a joke at AARP’s expense the other day.

The non-profit advocate for people age 50 and over volleyed one back Woods’ way on Thursday, when the former world No. 1 golfer struggled to a four-over par in the first round of the British Open.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Woods was asked if he’s considered retirement during his troubles on the golf course. He answered: ““Retirement? I don’t have any AARP card yet, so I’m a ways from that.”

The AARP tweeted Thursday: “@TigerWoods It’s better to be over 50, than it is to be over par. #DisruptAging #TheOpen”

Woods made par on his first hole Friday, which is one-stroke better than he started yesterday.

10:09 a.m.: Australia’s Adam Scott enjoyed a bogey-free day, shooting five birdies to move into what is currently a five-way tie for second place at seven under overall, two strokes back of leader Danny Willett.

8:49 a.m.: U.S. golfer Russell Henley recovered nicely from a two-over par round on Thursday, going six under in Round 2 to pull into contention at four under overall. He finished the day with seven birdies and one bogey.

Also at 4 under overall is Phil Mickelson, through 13 holes. He has four birdies on the day, including the 13th hole, but double-bogeyed the 11th.

Geoff Ogleby also had a nice day, going four under to finish the second round at five under overall, four off the lead. He made up for an early bogey with five birdies, including a rare one on the notoriously difficult 17th hole -- aka Road Hole, described in a great column by Bill Dwyre in today’s Times as “wonderfully dysfunctional.”

6:20 a.m.: English golfer Danny Willett is making a move Friday at St. Andrews, scattering four birdies over his first 12 holes of Round 2 at the British Open to drop to 10-under par and claim a three-stroke lead over Dustin Johnson and Zach Johnson.

Zach Johnson was one of six golfers -- also including Willett, Paul Lawrie, Jason Day, Retief Goosen and Robert Streb --who were in a six-way tie for second at six under after Thursday’s Round 1. Dustin Johnson held a one-stroke lead at seven under.

Besides Willett, Zach Johnson is the only other one of those golfers who have started play on Friday. He just birdied the 12th hole to drop to one under for the day and seven under overall.

Dustin Johnson is scheduled to tee off at 9:28 a.m. PDT.

Marc Warren has also joined the bunch at six under, shooting two under through 15 holes on Friday.

All tee times have been pushed back after an early rain delay of more than three hours, meaning Round 2 will most likely extend into Saturday.
