Broncos on their way to see Peyton Manning throw

Share

With all signs pointing to Peyton Manning making a team decision very soon, the star quarterback reportedly is scheduled to throw for Denver Broncos brass today in Raleigh, N.C.

A plane owned by the Broncos -- the same one that picked up Manning last week -- was tracked heading to North Carolina on Friday morning, and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports Manning will throw for John Elway & Co., the first time he’s worked out for a team (besides the Colts) since he was coming out of college.

The play clock is ticking on Manning’s decision, with Miami already out of the picture and Arizona due to drop out soon if Peyton doesn’t make his choice. The Cardinals need to decide by 1 p.m. PST Friday whether to keep quarterback Kevin Kolb, which would entail paying him a $7-million roster bonus.

It looks like the decision has come down to the Broncos and the Tennessee Titans, who Thursday signed Manning’s good friend, All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson. Manning played college ball in Tennessee, his wife grew up there and the Titans appear willing to pull out all the stops to get him -- including offering him a “lifetime contract” to stay with the franchise once his playing days are done.

The Titans are also flirting with the idea of signing free-agent center Jeff Saturday, who has been with Manning throughout the quarterback’s career in Indianapolis.

Clearly, though, the Broncos are not out of the picture, and Elway will make his best pitch to land the league’s only four-time Most Valuable Player. If Denver is able to sign Manning, the Broncos likely would look to trade Tim Tebow.
