More than two months after the Boston Marathon bombings, people from around the country are still pulling for the city to recover. And that sentiment extends to sports.
"Hockey is a tough game," it read. "As impressed as we were by the strength, talent and competitive spirit of the Boston Bruins on the ice, we were deeply touched by what happened off the ice."
Blackhawks officials praised their opponents' good sportsmanship and the hospitality shown by civic leaders and fans during a hard-fought series. Chicago won the Cup in Game 6 in Boston.
"Like the rest of the world, Chicagoans have been reminded in recent days of Boston's strength," the ad said. "Please know we tip our hat to your city's big heart and gracious spirit."
The salute follows another such gesture. Just days after the bombings, the Chicago Tribune sent pizzas to the Globe's newsroom.
