Chivas USA cuts ties with four players
After firing head coach José Luis Sánchez Solá a little over a month ago, Chivas USA (3-10-3) parted ways with four players Sunday.
The club declined options for midfielders Miller Bolaños and Laurent Courtois, sent midfielder Giovani Casillas back to Club Deportivo Guadalajara and released defender Joaquín Velázquez.
Bolaños recorded three goals and four assists in 29 games with Chivas USA since being loaned from Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito in Ecuador’s Serie A in January 2012. The 23-year-old appeared in five games this season.
Courtois was the longest-tenured goat, signing in August 2011 after spending three years with French club Grenoble Foot 38. He played 33 games over three seasons and five this year.
Casillas, who arrived at Chivas USA via brother club Chivas de Guadalajara in February, played in two games, starting five, before CD Guadalajara recalled the 19-year-old. Casillas scored his only goal as a substitute in a 3-1 win against FC Dallas on March 10.
Velázquez came to Chivas USA from Mexican First Division team Puebla F.C. The 37-year-old veteran started all 12 matches he appeared in and scored his lone goal in the Goats’ 4-1 win against the Chicago Fire on March 24.
Chivas USA was 3-7-2 at the time of Sánchez Solá’s firing on May 29. The club is 0-3-1 since and is last in the Western Conference heading into a match with FC Dallas on the Fourth of July.
