All-Star point guard Chris Paul suffered a separated right shoulder Friday night during the third quarter of the Clippers' 119-112 victory over the Mavericks in Dallas and is expected to be out three to five weeks, Coach Doc Rivers said.

The Clippers said Paul will be with them in San Antonio for Saturday night's game and will return to Los Angeles with the team after the game. Rivers said the injury would be re-evaluated Sunday in L.A.

An X-ray taken during Friday's game revealed that Paul had suffered a separation.

“We know it’s a separated shoulder. We don’t know what grade it is yet,” Rivers said. “. . . He’ll get re-evaluated in L.A., and just hope that he is going to be OK.”

Paul went down holding his right shoulder and was taken to the locker room with 6:43 left in the third quarter and the Clippers leading, 77-75.

Paul came off a high screen set by DeAndre Jordan and was fouled by Monta Ellis. He tumbled to the court holding his shoulder. Jasen Powell, the Clippers' head athletic trainer, escorted Paul to the locker room while his teammates watched.

Paul was having a strong game, making five of six three-point attempts and scoring 19 points, with six assists and three rebounds.

“After I set the screen for him, Chris said Monta pushed him,” Jordan said. “I hope Chris can come back sooner.”
