Tottenham reported the transfer on Saturday in a statement that simply read: "We have reached agreement with Major League Soccer for the transfer of Clint Dempsey. We wish Clint every success for the future."
Dempsey became one of the most successful Americans to play overseas by scoring 50 goals in 184 games over five years for Fulham. His first EPL goal came in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool to help Fulham avoid relegation to the second-tier Championship Division.
Dempsey, who has scored 35 goals in 99 appearances for the U.S. national team, had 12 goals in 41 appearances for Tottenham. He began his career by scoring 25 times in 71 games with the Revolution.
