Grant Hill retires from the NBA

After playing one season with the Clippers, 40-year-old Grant Hill announced his retirement Saturday after playing 19 seasons in the NBA.

Hill, a seven-time NBA All-Star, averaged 16.7 points over his career. He averaged 3.2 points in an injury-riddled season of 29 games with the Clippers.

The 6-foot-8 forward entered the NBA out of Duke in 1994, selected with the third overall pick by the Detroit Pistons. He was the co-rookie of the year in 1995 with Jason Kidd.

Hill seemed set to have a stellar career, but he was beset by numerous injuries that limited him to 1,026 games.

He made his retirement announcement while on the set of TNT working as an analyst for the Eastern Conference finals between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers.

“I’ve been hinting at it for the last few years,” Hill said on TNT. “You get to a point where you just don’t want to do it anymore. But I’ve enjoyed it. I loved it.”

Hill signed a two-year deal with the Clippers last summer worth $4 million. He is walking away from a salary of $2.045 million for next season.
