Clippers looking for another player
The Clippers have begun to make contact with several players to see if one is the right fit for the injury-laden team.
Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said he indeed spoke with free-agent small forward Stephen Jackson, and several other players as well. Rivers also is looking at players in the NBA’s Development league.
A 6-8 swingman, Jackson, 35, played for the San Antonio Spurs last season before he was released by the team.
“I like Stephen. We’ve talked,” Rivers said at the Clippers’ shoot-around Monday as they prepared to play the Philadelphia 76ers later that night. “But I’ve talked to four other guys too. We’ve made no decisions.”
The Clippers started the search for another player because rookie small forward Reggie Bullock suffered a sprained left ankle Saturday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers and is out.
The Clippers already are without shooting guard J.J. Redick, who will be out six to eight weeks with a broken right hand.
Backup small forward Matt Barnes will be out even longer than expected because he had a second procedure on his left retina last week and is not expected to join the team on this trip, which has four games left.
