Forward Colin Fraser, edged out of a job with the Kings because of their depth up the middle, signed a one-year, two-way contract Friday with the St. Louis Blues as a free agent.

A member of Stanley Cup championship teams with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and the Kings in 2012, Fraser had two assists in 33 games with the Kings last season and spent most of the time with their American Hockey League farm team in Manchester, N.H.

He was called up by the Kings in April but didn’t appear in any games during their run to a second Stanley Cup championship in three seasons.

Fraser, 29, is likely to be considered for a fourth-line spot with the Blues.

For those wondering when the Kings will open training camp and attempt to win their second consecutive Cup title, the answer is: very soon. Players are due to return to the ice on Sept. 19. There will be a rookie camp a week before that, starting Sept. 12, at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
