Dortmund draws No. 1 post for Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby
Unbeaten Dortmund, the Bob Baffert-trained 3-year-old son of Big Brown expected to go off as the odds-on favorite in Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby, drew the No. 1 post position when entries were announced on Wednesday.
Right next to Dortmund in the field of six will be stablemate One Lucky Dane, another Baffert trainee starting from the No. 2 post position. Other horses entered were Cross The Line, Bolo, Prospect Park and Bad Read Sanchez.
The $1-million Grade I Santa Anita Derby will be run as the eighth race on an 11-race card. The first race is at noon, and the Santa Anita Derby is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The Grade I Santa Anita Oaks for 3-year-old fillies will be the seventh race.
Dortmund is five for five in his racing career and considered one of the favorites for the Kentucky Derby on May 2.
