Mike Magee, who didn’t even start the Galaxy’s regular-season opener Sunday against D.C. United, was named Major League Soccer’s player of the week on Tuesday after coming off the bench at halftime to spark a 4-1 win.

Magee, who came on for a hobbled Giovani dos Santos, played a part in all four Galaxy goals, scoring twice, adding an assist and earning a penalty kick.

A former fan favorite at the StubHub Center, Magee was making his first Galaxy appearance since May 2013, when he was traded to the Chicago Fire for Robbie Rogers.

Magee won the league MVP award that season but was not re-signed by the Fire this winter after two injury-plagued seasons, opening the path for his return to the Galaxy.
