Golden State Warriors’ Andrew Bogut ruled out indefinitely
The Golden State Warriors have rocketed out to an NBA-best 21-3 start, but they suffered a big loss Thursday as center Andrew Bogut was been ruled out indefinitely after receiving platelet-rich plasma therapy to treat swelling and instability in his right knee.
“We fully support Andrew in his decision to undergo the PRP treatment,” Warriors General Manager Bob Myers said in a statement. “Our number one concern is that Andrew is 100% healthy and we will continue to support him in any way we can to make that happen.”
The oft-injured 7-footer, who was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005 with the No. 1 pick out of Utah, leads Golden State in rebounds (9.3) and blocks (2.2) per game. He’s also averaging 7.1 points.
Bogut missed the Warriors’ postseason run last year because of a broken rib and sat out 50 games during the 2012-13 season because of a left ankle injury.
Festus Ezeli, a second-year pro out of Vanderbilt, has made four starts in place of Bogut but hasn’t shown he can match Bogut’s production. In that small sample, Ezeli is averaging 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks with 4.5 points.
The Warriors host the Oklahoma City Thunder (12-13) on Thursday night.
