Watch Boston Bruins’ Gregory Campbell show grit blocking shot

For those marveling at the toughness and grit of Chicago defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson in Game 3 -- more about that later -- there was another incredible display of perseverance in the Bruins-Penguins series.

Bruins forward Gregory Campbell was injured during a penalty kill during the second period of Game 3 on Wednesday night, taking one in the leg via an Evgeni Malkin slap shot.

Campbell stayed out for about another minute, helping kill the penalty. The news emerged later that Campbell had broken his right leg and will miss the rest of the playoffs, according to media reports.

“It was a huge play by him,” the Bruins Patrice Bergeron told reporters after Boston’s win in double overtime. “Again, we’re talking about details, we’re talking about little things that goes a long way, and that block was super. That’s the way he is.

“He sacrifices the body always for the team, for the better of the team. Obviously we tried to rally behind that.”

Meanwhile, Hjalmarsson had been in visible pain after taking a shot in the knee on Tuesday in Game 3 against the Kings. He eventually got off the ice, but not before going down to block another shot.

In true hockey fashion, Hjalmarsson returned to action. In true hockey fashion, he refused to talk about the incident the next day.

“I was waiting for a whistle,” said Chicago Coach Joel Quenneville on Wednesday. “Then he got up, tried to block another shot. I’ve seen Hammer take a lot of blows. It’s tough to knock him down, definitely a relief to see him get up.”
