Hunter Mahan, who was leading the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club after two rounds but left for home when his wife went into labor a month early, introduced the world to his baby daughter, Zoe Olivia Mahan.

Mahan, a native of Orange, Calif., and the Pacific 10 Conference freshman of the year at USC before transferring to Oklahoma State, finished in a tie for ninth last week at the British Open.

He was two shots clear of the field at the Canadian Open at 13 under par through 36 holes after a second-round 64 when he received word before the start of the third round on Saturday that his wife, Kandi, was in labor.

In a no-brainer decision, he packed his bags and headed home to Dallas so he could attend the birth of Zoe. He was busy Sunday morning announcing her birth via Twitter.

What a whirlwind of a day, but I’m happy to announce the birth of my daughter Zoe Olivia Mahan born at 3:26 am. Thanks for all the support!— Hunter Mahan (@HunterMahan) July 28, 2013

Mahan was particularly grateful for his sponsors allowing him to put family before business.

Both Baby and Mom are doing great. Thanks to all to my sponsors who appreciate what’s important in life and all my fans for being Awesome!— Hunter Mahan (@HunterMahan) July 28, 2013
