Jeff Lockie got the start at quarterback for the No. 12 Oregon Ducks against Georgia State on Saturday, with incumbent transfer starter Vernon Adams Jr. out because of a broken finger.

Adams suffered a broken finger during the Ducks’ opener against his former team, Eastern Washington. He was able to play against Michigan State last week and is available to come off the bench against the Panthers if needed, Coach Mark Helfrich announced before the game.

Lockie appeared in 10 games last season, completing 21 of 28 passes for 207 yards while backing up Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.

Adams beat out Lockie for the Oregon starting job after transferring in early August after graduating from Eastern Washington. Adams passed for 10,438 yards with 110 touchdowns and had 31 passes intercepted with the Eagles.

He’s passed for 555 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in two games for the Ducks.
