The Kings defeated the Ducks in Game 1 of their first postseason meeting, 3-2, when Marian Gaborik tipped in a shot by Anze Kopitar with 7:53 left in overtime.

The Ducks had dominated overtime, putting seven shots on goal compared to the Kings' two through 11 minutes of play.

The Kings sent the game into overtime on a goal by Gaborik with seven seconds left in the third period.

Gaborik scored during a frantic series of plays at the end of regulation as the Ducks tried to clear the puck. Kings winger Justin Williams collected the puck along the boards near the corner and sent a pass into the crease that got knocked into the air by a Ducks defenseman and goaltender Jonas Hiller. Gaborik slapped the puck out of the air and past Hiller.

The Ducks have taken a 2-1 lead with midway through the third period when 43-year-old winger Teemu Selanne scored on a two-on-one rush.

Selanne scored on a nifty back-handed shot between the legs of goaltender Jonathan Quick with 11:52 left in the period after winger Patrick Maroon collected the puck near the blue line and led the charge, shoveling a pass to Selanne at the last second to the right of the crease.

The Kings had a chance to tie when going on a power play wit 8:28 left in the game, but the Ducks and goalie Jonas Hiller shut them down during the two-minute span.

The Kings scored first when defenseman Alec Martinez netted a goal on a power play with 10:56 left in the first period.

The Ducks did not allow their Southland neighbors to hold the lead for long, answering on a goal by Matt Beleskey off a nice pass from behind the crease by Ryan Getlaf with 8:17 left in the period.

It is the first time two local teams have played each other in any postseason of a major sport.

The Ducks were 4-0-1 against the Kings during the regular season, losing only in a nine-round shootout Dec. 3 at Honda Center.

The Kings are riding the momentum of their rally from a 3-0 series hole against San Jose, and the Ducks have rested since Sunday after their first playoff series win since 2009. Below are our live updates of Game 1. (Here's a version of the Kings-Ducks action for our mobile users.)
